Press the accelerator harder and you will feel a little button when its flat on the floor to kick down!!
Pretty sure the MK6 has one. Cant beat a good thrashing in manual.

Yup I did find the kick down but it takes ages. In a manual, in the same time, I'd have changed gear and floored it.
