*Help* New wheels opinions!??
« on: April 16, 2009, 10:45:40 pm »
Hey all..

Not often I ask for thoughts but really a bit stuck on this one..

As some of you may know im planning on changing my wheels to 17x8 and going to a 245/40/17 tyre, so pretty extreme lol.. The reason for the change is to save weight, but also running a smaller wheel by only 1" reduces the MOI "Mass Of Inertia" by a huge amount, so the feeling of weight saving is multiplied..

Thats why those Carbon Dymag wheels are so effective, there not a huge amount lighter than any other forged alloy or Mag wheel out there, but the barrel of the wheel is Carbon, so super light, hence the MOI is very low!! Enough of that anyways..  :grin:

The thing is im not sure what wheel to go for, there are a few options. Some of which look pretty similar.. Just to note, all the wheels would be done in Matte Black so ignore the colours in the pics below..

* Speedline type 2021 (looks like the Turini but its cast Mag)

* Team Dynamics Pro Race 1.2s (just like the wheels I have now but without the branding)

* Dymag Mag wheel (not the carbon version, thats only in 18"+)

* OZ Racing Alleggerita

* OZ Racing Ultraleggera

* Compomotive MO1782

I have done a couple of Photoshops, just of the Compomotive wheel, and the Speedline, as the OZ wheels and Team dynamics are a very similar multi spoke design, and the Dymag wheel looks very similar to the Compomotives!

Compomotive MO1782

Speedline 2021 (Turini in pic, 2021 just has a slightly flatter spoke)

So what do you think?

I really like the MO's actually, think it would completely change the look of the car! The old 5 spoke design looks pretty nice too..

And yes, I would aim to be running it that low too!! Fully skate board spec! haha..

So let me know what you all think!!

Go for the lightest :happy2:

Do all these have 8" wide options?

Do you have all the weights?

I'd still be tempted by the Alleggerita's, but the Dymags also float my boat :smiley:

OZ or speedlines for me :happy2:
The MO's would look even smaller than they are if you know what i mean. Evo9 fq360 came with a similar wheel design to the MO and it just didnt look right IMO :smiley:

Tornado red ED30, Revo stage 2, ITG Panel filter, 3" Blueflame turbo back exhaust, leon cupra front brakes, ecs dogbone mount, WALK kit, Eibach sportlines, Satin black Monza II's, VWR/sachs paddle clutch

I'll stick with my first post then. Alleggerita's are probably the most cost effective and with the £1,700 you'll save over the dymags you would be able to make a better weight saving elsewhere :happy2: Rotational mass saving would be around 11kg, but I'm sure £1,700 spent elsewhere would kill that (swapping out stock screws/bolts/wheel nuts for alloy ones comes to mind, or adjustable front CF splitter for extra downforce/grip) :smiley:
