Heater Problem?
« on: December 16, 2011, 11:07:53 pm »
Hi all, I have a 2005 GTI and its seems to take a long time to reach the 90 degree normal running temperature.  My drive to work is about 10 miles and takes 15 - 20 mins, through 30, 40 and 60 mph zones.  The car reaches normal temp about a mile before I get to work.

Also I dont think the heaters are as hot as they should be when on max or even medium at normal running temp.

I thought it could be a dodgy thermostat but the car doesn't run cold, just takes ages to get hot.  Can thermostats get old an slow down their opening time?

Is this just a characteristic of the Golf?

I'd be most grateful for any enlightenment, thanks

I haven't got my car yet  otherwise I'd love to have given my experience must say it doesn't sound normal to me....

I could be wrong but my '03 1.4 polo warms up quickly in stop start traffic from cold.....

At 60mph it shouldn't take very long at all to warm up to 90°C. If my commute doesn't allow me to exceed 30mph (the case more often than not) it can take some time, which is pretty damned irritating when it's baltic outside!

I would say about 80% of my journey to work is around 50 - 60 mph, so it is surprising.

I did notice another thread about this sort of problem but it was inconclusive, it mentioned getting the thermostat changed but I can't remember what the thread said and I can't find it again.

This is a right pain in the hoop and would love to find out why this is happening, seems like its quite a common thing.

Anyone who knows please post.
