How similar is a Mk1 Leon Cupra R and Golf Gti/ED30 etc

LCR are great cars i had 2 , the recaro interior is quite rare , even had recaro rear seat ! had my last one remapped by custom code turned a good car into an amazing one

They dropped the rear recaro seats in the later model. I had the fronts only in mine.

my 53 reg had the rear recaro seats , that was the later model , i think

Mine was an 04 when they removed them.

One thing which was good on the 225 model was the steering wheel

I too had one (Emotion Red) before my ED30 and will echo comments on them being a great all rounder. Had Revo Stage 1 (about 260bhp) and went very well to be fair (14.0 1/4 mile).
Mine had stock suspension set up though and although it handled ok, it was a lot more barge-like compared to the Ed30..

Drive, comfort and ride not as good as the mk5 but then it's not going to be as that's the replacement chassis/engine. Not saying that's it was bad, mine was standard suspension too.
