Drivers door sitting low?
« on: December 20, 2011, 09:47:17 pm »
I noticed that my Drivers door is sitting a bit low, the gap between the rear and front door increase towards the bottom. Is there an easy fix to get this sorted?

Is the gap under the front door smaller under the door handle than it is near the hinges?

I've got the same problem with the Jetta.
I'm rather worried its been in a smash and it was repaired and then sold without being declared!!
The drivers door seems to have dropped on the hinges slightly as the door doesn't close smoothly and you can hear it not closing cleanly.
Does anyone know how to adjust the hinges to rectify this?

Cheers
Paulo.

It might not be the hinges that need adjusting,my drivers door was not flush a while ago i took into VW and it was a simple fix,as an adjuster bolt had actually worked itself loose once they had tightened the said bolt the door came back in line...

These adjuster bolts are in located all along the inside of the door (where clasp latches to the door pillar) there are a few of them...

VW fixed mine for nothing.

This has always been a problem with Golfs, especially 3 dr models. I had it on my Mark 2 16V and my Mk4 1.8T, both 3 door models.

The problem with such well engineered cars is that some parts are quite heavy, and the long doors on 3 dr models are even heavier. They can 'drop' as the hinges are being asked to do quite a lot, even on 5 dr models with shorter front doors!

I had the hinges adjusted on my MK4 3 times, and the final attempt worked. I've not had this problem yet on my MK5, neither did I experience it on my 5dr V64Motion.

Take it in to your garage and try and get the hinges adjusted as a first port of call.

Yes mate, the gap is smaller near the handle.. It's as if the door has rotated a little anti clockwise if you get me lol You can actually see it in my Sig below, the line getting more apparent towards the bottom..

I'd get it looked at, but I've found bodyshops are better than dealers for this, as they have to do make these adjustments to doors more regularly.
