Good grief - that's awful!

I can understand the value of going the trading standards route but I'm with Ian on this one....with all the hassle that will be involved, probably better just to post s**t through their letter box!

They said theyre going to pay PDTuning for whatever corrective work that they do, remains to be seen though.
On another downside, I had to go to A&E last week, paid 2 hrs parking, but was stuick in a cubicle with doctors for over 3 hours.
Nothing was on the windscreen. But the garage have been given a parking ticket through one of those privately owed magic Eye parking companies.
My luck never ceases to amaze me!

Hi Dom your car sounds like the exact same as my car except mines a seat.

Did you not have any fault codes with the inlet cam being so far out?

How far out actually was it ? Reason I ask is mine was out like yours been like that for 3 years  and was found at the end of 2011 after 3 odd years of complaining !

I'm going to post a pix up of mine if that's ok ?
Seems to be a common be group blunder !

Is there a rule for the amount of degrees out sapping x amount of   BHP?

I had huge timing pull on my car   , bad fuel economy and constant misfires , I'm in the process of taking seat to court.

Since mines been fixed I have my power back and my fuel economy has increased by about 50 miles to a tank !
Feel for you buddy.

Andy, remember me telling you I didn't trust that lot....  :signLOL:

As clangers go, that camshaft cock up is way up there.
Sarcasm for free. Anything after that can only be considered as a bonus.

Just because you think you know something, doesn't make you an expert if you've just read it on the internet, y'know.

Thanks mate.

mine was diagnosed and fixed by a seat dealership in west london
took them 2 days to find the problem which 3 other dealerships and a head seat technician couldnt find !

pics below

you can see in the second picture that the cam locking tool will not engage into the slot in the cam shaft.
and in the first picture you can see that the locking tool will not sit down and touch the top of the cylinder head.
for 3 years i was told there is nothing wrong with my car !

Sorry to hijack your thread Dom.

Good news is that doms car is now back in 1 piece, test drive / compression test and datalogging tomorrow. List of faults/mistakes found so far:

1 inlet cam out by 30 degrees
2 oil leaking from cam chain casing - no sealent applied to mating faces
3 cambelt cover bolts rounded off
4 exhaust cam end bolt overtightened (should be 25nm + 70 degrees)
5 crankshaft bolt NOT replaced during build
6 over application of sealent to camshaft housing causing loose silicon to drop into cylinderhead
7 excess silicone sealent blocking oil passages in camshaft bearing assembly
8 excess silicon sealent compressed into spark plug apetures in cylinder head

Rounded bolts and all other faults now rectified so dom should have his car back tomorrow

That is a pretty shocking list of ailments.

I suppose the $64,000 question is which map?

Yours is out by a silmilar amount, maybe a bit less. It is the opposite to Doms though, i.e turned too far the other way.

So should the inlet camshaft lobes be pointing in the same direction as the exhaust  lobe in my picture ? my exhaust lobe is low and the inlet is pointing high
