Whistling sound coming from engine, is this normal...
« on: March 03, 2012, 12:07:31 pm »
Hi everyone

When i accelerate i get a whistling sound from the engine, can hear it right from low revs up to high and it gets louder, with the windows down its really obvious.

I know at high boost when you let of the accelerator it makes a whoosh as normal but im not sure on the whistling, im sure it wasn't like that when i bought it.

Any advice? from what ive read so far im guessing its the diverter valve?

cheers in advance

Sounds like the dv has a split in it as I had the same on mine. If you've got an ED30 only takes 5 mins to check, if standard GTI takes a bit longer due to being in a different position

I get a whistling sound from mine too - I put it down to the turbo spooling up. As Nathan said - get the DV checked / replaced though first :happy2:
