RCD 300 Vs RNS 510 b
« on: December 24, 2011, 06:09:15 pm »
Hi people just asking for knowledge please!

Currently in the process of buying a RNS 510 b and have the standard RCD 300 cd player with 8 speakers. Just wondered if anyone has done the same and if there is a big/any difference in sound quality?

Thanks everyone!  :happy2:

I replaced the RCD300 in my Jetta for a RCD510 and the difference is massive. I mean MASSIVE.

There is a known issue with the Gateway in vehicles pre 2007 which causes the battery to drain so it is worth getting your car scanned by somebody with Vagcom to see if your Gateway is affected.

There are limitations but you will notice a difference for sure.

My advice would be to contact Eddie-NL who is an active trader on this site as he sells Gateway's and for a small fee (MUCH less than an independent and certainly less than a VW dealer) will code the Gateway for you.

I made the swap from RCD300 to RCD510 and the main differences are that the latter features a digital (D-class) amplifier with anti-clipping, which helps prevent distortion from the speakers. Also, mid-bass can be adjusted in settings along with treble and bass, unlike the RCD300 which only allows treble and bass adjustment  :happy2:
