Climatronic Readouts
« on: December 28, 2011, 03:47:47 pm »
HI Guys,

Just found this info on internet and climatronic dual temperature displays can show a number of interesting info. Anybody tested those?? I am mostly interested in oil temperature and it seems to be working fine. However when engine fully heated as per water temperature gauge the oil temperature shows 45 degrees celsius. ANother good one is 19.0 which is real speed from wheel sensors

VW Climatronic Readouts

1. Hold down "ECON", and press the "up-vent" button (next to recirculation). Both temperature displays will read 00 or 00'0, and you can release the buttons once they do.
2. Twist the LEFT temperature knob until the display above reads 19’0.
3. Twist the FAN knob until the left temperature display reads 19’1 (like 19.1).
4. The right temperature display is now a digital speedometer! HOW COOL IS THAT!!!

--- For tach (in x100), twist the FAN knob until the left temperature display reads 19’3 (like 19.3)

--- To reset and go back to normal operation, hit the ECON button once.

These are the different settings the Climatronic can display. The numbers on the left indicate the “CHANNEL” it MUST be SET to:

•   1.0: Temp as read by sensor in middle fan speed knob.
•   1.4: Light intensity falling on same sensor.
•   4.0: Outside Temp – front bumper
•   4.1: Outside Temp – roof.
•   4.2: Outside Temp – rear bumper (inside temp?)
•   15.0: Oil Temp
•   19.0: Uncorrected Speed (Km/h)
•   19.1: Uncorrected Speed (Mp/h)
•   19.2: Coolant Temp
•   19.3: Tachometer (x100rpm)
•   19.4: Oil Pressure
•   25.0: Voltage

I was looking for this the other day as I wanted to monitor the cars oil temp!

Thanks for sharing :)

I've read a few posts on this, the oil temp readout isn't actually the oil temp. - sorry dude :surprised:

The readout is only for the climatronic system Diagnostics (which wouldn't need to know oil temp / pressure). I believe the speedo / tacho readout is correct though  :happy2:

If it's not the oil temp what is it then?

I was reading about that as well and think it could be oil temp though. The purpose of those readout is not entirely known unless the creator of some will speak out and whether it's for climatronic system diagnosis is a wild guess in my opinion. The fact is there is a number of readouts from various car sensors which could be displayed.

While driving today I displayed the potential oil temp and could only get it up  to 65 degrees during my 20 minutes drive with 6 degrees ambient temperature. What is the normal operational oil temperature in gti??

Oil will get hotter than 65 degrees - this is what made me question it. . . .

I'll have a look for the site (think it was on mkvgti forum)

19.4 aint oil pressure. its aircon pump speed.

I 99% drive with windows open and a/c off. I did a test a little while back. made sure A/C was off and set it to 19.4 reading was 0.0 no matter how i drove, foot flat and just on idle. Then reset, put a/c on and set it back 19.4. now i get a reading, put the hammer down and numbers climb and falling depending on rpm. So to me this shows its reading the a/c pump speed.

Have a good read of this: http://www.golfmkv.com/forums/archive/index.php/t-11658.html

Yes I read this info and it seems to be right and the same for channel 15.0 which is supposed to be oil temperature and it's not what I checked today. WHen I started my car today from cold the gauge was showing 7 degrees which seemed right and then as I was driving along the gauge started to increase and followed the water temperature with a slight lag which seamed resonable.... Until the climatronic gauge reached 48 degrees and stayed there during my whole 20 mile trip.... It seems there is no substitute for Polar display....
