6 was the old spec, VW changed the spec to 7 as 6 was too warm

8 will be one step cooler than VWs current spec

You shouldn't need to adjust the gap

If you are K03 stage one however, use NGK 7s.

yeah a lowly k03 :) and just stage 1 with cat back exhaust fitted and intake to be fitted.

I'll stick with the ngk7's then... although I can get the ngk8's for slightly cheaper ..... if cost isnt an issue would you still say ngk7's?

excellent thanks for your advice. NGK7's it is. I'm not overly confident this is the source of my problem as like I say they were only changed July 2011. However new sparks wont harm things and will just rule one more thing out.

Thanks not right for them to be shot so quickly though surely? Suggests other running issues?

A bad map ruined them I think. Over fuelling made them soot up and overheat

just changed the spark plugs to the ngk7s. The ones i took out were VW ones and didnt look bad at all. The service book says they were changed about 7k ago and it certainly looks like thats the case.

The coil packs were all the new F revisions as well and this ties in with the fact that vw say there are no outstanding recalls on my car so possibly these were changed before I bought the car.

Wonder if its still worth changing them?? just to rule them out really? Visually they all looked fine. No discolouration or burning like ive seen on some peoples photos on the web.

Not sure what to do now.

See if the plugs fix it first. Also most peeps go for the VW,oem plugs, as lots of the aftermarket ones can also cause slight running issues too.  :happy2:

grrrr.... well i chose the ngk ones after lots of people seemed to rate them and say they were the ones to go for!

Ngk7s are the same as vw ones, but are iridium rather than platinum  :happy2:

dv was changed a few months ago for the latest version.

not sure what or where the cam follower is or how i would check it

im getting bored of this...

So the problem is still there.

It drove fine on my 15 min test drive after changing the sparks. It drove fine on a 40 min drive at varying speeds on the m11.

The driving back tonight i stuck the cruise on 80 and drove for about 35 mins and then dropped in speed and when i put my foot down again (in 6th in manual) it started doing the hesitation and lumpy running.

Each time its done it.. its been after a decent run at around 80mph .. a couple of times on cruise and once just keeping a steady speed with the throttle. Thats the only similarity I can think of.

I tried to take a video but it doesnt show how 'lumpy' it feels.

What you can see is it sort of surge a bit when i put my foot down and then the revs drop a bit and then slowly continue to raise... but as they are slowly raising it feels very hesitant and lumpy. Its hard to see.

I had it in manual mode on the dsg
