Tyre fitter query
« on: December 28, 2011, 09:39:31 pm »
When I was in having my tyres changed today I noticed the fitter took an angle grinder to the bead of my alloy wheels. Should I be worried?

There may have just been a sharp edge created by a tyre lever on removal that needed the grinder.  They should have mentioned this to you though.

They didn't do. Thanks for the reply! Just spunked £650 on 4 Michelin PS3's with fitting! :surprised:

You might find its to clean the lip of the wheel so the tyre makes a good seal. Normally they use a brush atta hment which cleans it up nicely else it would leak on the rim.

Yeah sorry, it was a wire brush attachment - that's what I meant by angle grinder!  :ashamed: Epic fail on my part LOL I'll get me coat!

Yeah a wire brush is just to clean the rim to stop it losing pressure.
I would have been worried if it had been an angle grinder :fighting:
