Dsg reviews
« on: December 29, 2011, 11:30:50 am »
ive placed a deposit on a 56 plate manual Gti,but after seeing all the rave reviews from dsg owners I might change my mind & get a dsg,are they really that good??i had a merc c32 amg which was auto, the so called speed shift autobox was sh@t,it's not quick enough at shifting, doesn't heel & toe when downshifting gears..it's a clumsy box...are paddle shift standard with dsg or a factory option?

I think paddles are standard. The dsg is super slick. Like no other auto I've driven. Not everybody likes but I love mine, makes sitting in traffic less stress

I mean does it blip the throttle when doing downshifts?

Yes it blips the throttle on downshifts in both "D" and in "S"

Put it this way, Ferrari are now using a similar system to DSG.

Paddle shift was an optional extra on early 04/05 cars but was standard on later ones. I recently drove a Golf estate diesel and found the gear changes to be silky smooth but when accelerating hard, I missed the clutch and manual gear changes. Try and go for a test drive in a DSG car.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

You've asked exactly the same question in two threads you started, what's the point?

What I'd do is get yourself on auto trader, find the closest dealer with a DSG Gti on the forecourt and get yourself over there to test drive it, you'll then know for sure if DSG is for you.
It doesn't matter how many questions or opinions you ask it's down to personal choice.

I test drove one and hated the experience.
It's an excellent bit of kit but personally I like driving a manual. I just couldn't get on with DSG, the drive just didn't feel involving at all.

I love the manual for total control but the DSG is superb

Driving style choice is the deciding factor! Its a fantastic car regardless of box

Best move I've ever made was going from a manual to a DSG, won't go manual again
DSG has to many good points to me
There a reliable box too....you get people saying they've had problems but there's more that hasn't had problems....plus you don't need to change clutch at stage 2  :driver:

as with the comment directly above this one, i'd never go back to a manual now. DSG has too many advantages.

ive got a 56 plate with the dsg box and it is brilliant. I thought that i would never own a automatic as i loved driving all my previous manual cars. But the gear change is so smooth you cant even tell that its changing. Plus it has launch control which is fun to use every now and again :)
