Dodgy window switch cluster?

The tight fit of the car in the garage means I have to press and hold the unlock button, which opens the driver's window. Can then chuck key into the ignition, open the door and get in. I then normally turn the ignition to power the electrics, adjust the mirrors and pull the window switch up to close the driver side window. Then I start the car.

This morning, I tried starting the car whilst the driver's window was still winding up. It stopped. When I went to pull on the switch, it wouldn't wind up. Looked at the switches and they were unlit, whereas the RNS and everything else was lit up. After a couple of seconds, the panel lit up and I could close the driver side window.

Will try and do a log tonight but any ideas on what might've caused it?

One of the switches for the rear windows on the drivers controls is a bit tempermental on mine, assume its to do with the shower they get if the windows open and I take a corner if its raining.

I didn't quite understand your entry method though, why do the keys have to go in the ignition before you get in?!

What else am i going to do with the keys? Put them back in my pocket? I can't keep them in my hand as it'd cause damage to the paintwork as I get in and out. Basically have to squeeze in and out and the garage is narrow to the point I have to that I can only open the door to its first notch!

I've had a faulty switch on a couple of previous golfs. Basicalł where you felt the button click it didn't work, you had to put a little more pressure on pulling it and it would work.

I could even hold it up and by releasing a tiny amount of pressure it wouldn't work although the button was still in an active position that should have made the window go up.

Are you sure the switch isn't just on its way out?

I don't understand your entry method either. Why can you press the unlock button on the remote, open the drivers door and climb in?

I garage mine, it's a standard single garage and I can't open the door much at all.
I'm just careful when I get in and out, it's not really much hassle at all.
I have stuck some carpet to the side of the wall to protect the door.
