OEM look pedals to aid heel and toe
« on: December 30, 2011, 01:53:54 pm »
Struggling with the mk5s pedals and I need them nearer but obviously done want a gash ally bolt on pedal like we probably put in our Minis when we were 17!

Probably answered my own Q here but thought the 2 pedal cars might have a wider brake pedal I could use?

........(goes to research)......

I think the DSG brake pedal will be too wide for a manual car tbh mate?

These any good to you? http://www.esetuning.com/AWE-Tuning-Sport-Pedal-Covers-for-Audi-VW-p/pedals-mk5-m-gunmetal.html

I find that the DBW throttle in most modern cars makes it difficult to heel/toe in the traditional manner of old skool stuff as it seems to cut power due to the brake application, rev matching for downshifts seem to work better but not really required for normal driving i suppose, handy on track though although having DSG i dont have to worry

You need the Revo race file.  You can brake and throttle at the same time.  :happy2:

Other mappers should also be able to do this.

It is the physical aspect of my foot reaching the throttle aswell as the brake. I had a look at a dsg pedal today but its extra width is to the left, so the space between brake and throttle is the same.

If I sort the pedals, are you saying then that the actual software will stop me blippping while braking hard....I have done a few sketchy light braking throttle blips and it seemed to let me.do that!

The sales blurb on the AWE pedals mentions the accelerator pedal has been enlarged specifically for better heel and toe action, so I'd imagine it has been made wider on the left hand side to bridge the gap as it were?
You can blip for rev matching to downshifts whilst braking but in my old manual mk5 I found that if you gave it too much throttle whilst on the brake it seemed to baulk and kept the revs around 3k, made it a pretty jerky affair at times...

Some kind of race map mentioned by Alex seems the way forward, didn't even know that was possible!  :happy2:

Yep... Pressing the break whilst ridding the accelerator will cut the throttle. :-/
