Help me choosing the right BT carkit for my rns510!?
« on: December 31, 2011, 09:48:33 am »
Guys,

I've done a lot of reading about the o.e.m. carkits, working with the rns510, but it is still not clear to me.
Can you guys help me out?

What I have:
- VW Golf mk5 GTI, no phone preparation, 06-2005, original 6CD-changer, no MDI/Aux connectors
- Small mfa, but planning to retrofit a mfa+ (already have vcds and vagcommander cables and software for it)
- buttons on mfsw, but I have the 'old style' buttons (without the 'star' but with phone hangup and pickup buttons)
- Rns 510 original B version with firmware fw2760 and V8 maps

What I want:
- Bluetooth connection to my iPhone 3GS and future 4S or 5 (?)
- Full control of phone on my rns510 (dial, phonebook, etc)
 - information also visible on mfa+ (once I have retrofitted one)

What I want, but not required:
- Pickup / Hangup with buttons on mfsw (will it work with 'old style buttons'?)
- Voice control of rns510 (will it work with fw2760? And I've read something about an extra microphone?)
- Original VW microphone in o.e.m. location (in compartment where the sunglass holder and the reading lights are)

- A2DP to stream music from iPhone to Rns510

Extra questions:
- What is 'Rsap' and do I need it?
- what models are working? 9w2, 9w3, 9w7, 9wz?
- what is meant with abbreviations like: 7P6, 3C8, 5K0, etc?
- What vcds coding is needed in my situation?

- Better to look for a Kufatec Fiscon Basic Plus?
- I'm looking for a complete kit, so with wiring-loom, controller, mic, etc. So plug&and play?
- If I choose a model that is only for 'white dot mfa', so nothing shows up on a red mfa+, will I still be able to pair/set/control it using the rns510?

Pages I have read:
- http://www.vwwatercooled.org.au/forums/f78/summary-bluetooth-options-rns510-rcd510-31461.html
- http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,39739.0.html

Thanks,

Tim

To get this: -

What I want:- Bluetooth connection to my iPhone 3GS and future 4S or 5 (?)
- Full control of phone on my rns510 (dial, phonebook, etc)
 - information also visible on mfa+ (once I have retrofitted one)

You need either the 729B oem skoda kit or one of the aftermarket kits like the Kufatec fiscon  :happy2:

What I want, but not required:
- Pickup / Hangup with buttons on mfsw (will it work with 'old style buttons'?)
- Voice control of rns510 (will it work with fw2760? And I've read something about an extra microphone?)
- Original VW microphone in o.e.m. location (in compartment where the sunglass holder and the reading lights are)

- A2DP to stream music from iPhone to Rns510

Don't believe the pick-up/hand-up button will work with any of the kits.

No extra mic required when using the OEM kits for VC of the RNS just depending on the type of loom you have it might require re-routing via the back of the RNS. Most I have seen now a days are pre-wired for VC.

Both OEM and Fiscon can now have the mic in the OEM location (fiscon offer this as an optional extra now).

A2DP will only be available on the Fiscon kit and not the 729B kit.

Pickup/hangup via the MFSW works perfectly on my kufatec fiscon basic+ handsfree

And what about prices?
729B (this is called a Skoda unit?) and Fiscon Basic Plus models more expensive?

@ ALEXPERKINS: Pickup/hangup works? I have the 200.5 buttons:

I can't see why they wouldn't work with the fiscon kit, but its possible there may be issues

729B is harder to get hold of now, and can be quite pricey.

Fiscon basic plus is about £280

Do you have the same style mfsw buttons or newer style?
Would it be possible to place a set of new style mfsw buttons? (Or is a new can gateway also needed?)

I have the newer style buttons in mine buddy

It is possible to replace, but you may need a new steering controller - someone else will confirm I'm sure!  :happy2:

Having just gone through this excercise and eventually settling on the 5N0 kit, this is what I have discovered. I might be completely off base on some of the answers, but this is to the best of my knowledge and research I have done.

What I want:
- Bluetooth connection to my iPhone 3GS and future 4S or 5 (?)
Get one of the newer kits if you want to future proof, or the Fiscon which allows updates.
- Full control of phone on my rns510 (dial, phonebook, etc)
All of them will do that
 - information also visible on mfa+ (once I have retrofitted one)

Only the older 729B will do this, and the Fiscon units.

What I want, but not required:
- Pickup / Hangup with buttons on mfsw (will it work with 'old style buttons'?)
As far as I am aware, they will work
- Voice control of rns510 (will it work with fw2760? And I've read something about an extra microphone?)
No idea
- Original VW microphone in o.e.m. location (in compartment where the sunglass holder and the reading lights are)

If you want that, then you will only be able to do that with an OEM kit. The Fiscon has an external mic. I know they do an OEM style mic for extra money, but from what I have read, it's not good at all
- A2DP to stream music from iPhone to Rns510
Then you want one of the newer kits or the Fiscon, the 729B doesn't do A2DP

Extra questions:
- What is 'Rsap' and do I need it?
Rsap is for reading and writing sms or text messages. Will not work with the Iphone, so no, you don't need it
- what models are working? 9w2, 9w3, 9w7, 9wz?
They should all work
- what is meant with abbreviations like: 7P6, 3C8, 5K0, etc?
No idea about the codes, but in terms of age, it goes: 3C8, 7P6, 5K0 from what I have read, but could be wrong. I just went with the newer one, which I believe is the 5N0
- What vcds coding is needed in my situation?

The BT will need to be coded in using VCDS
- Better to look for a Kufatec Fiscon Basic Plus?
I didn't go with this due to the price and the main stumbling block of the OEM mic location. I got the OEM 5N0 for £180 vs £330 the cheapest I found for the Fiscon
- I'm looking for a complete kit, so with wiring-loom, controller, mic, etc. So plug&and play?
Most if not all the kits will be plug and play with all you need, just check them properly.
- If I choose a model that is only for 'white dot mfa', so nothing shows up on a red mfa+, will I still be able to pair/set/control it using the rns510?
Yes, the only thing you will not have is the phone display on the MFA / MFA+

Not true - the fiscon kits work with the MFA display.

Yeah, sorry, left that one out. Was only thinking of OEM's due to him wanting the OEM speaker location. Post updated. Same as the A2DP, Fiscon also does this.

WoW! Thanks for al the helpfull answers.

@Squeeguk: You're saying that all new models will work (except on the red mfa offcourse), but I've read something about a pairing problem: on models like the 3C8 (and others?) you need the (white) mfa to make the BT vissible and to pair the devices.
On other models (7P6?) the pairing goes using only the phone.
Is this true, or is it also possible to turn on vissibility on rns510 and connect/pair?

From what I understand, if you don't have the 510 or the MFSW then that is the case, the phone is only visible for the first 10 seconds or something. Otherwise with the 510, you should be able to pair all the kits. I am sure someone will be along to correct me if I am wrong, lol.

In general most units with rsap are not visible at all unless you start pairing via the highline display (BAP/white led dash only)
For example if you fit 5N0035730D rsap/uhv unit to the MK5 it is visible in the RNS510 but impossible to pair your phone.
If you were to fit 7P6035730B uhv only unit then you can pair normally from your phone.

Thanks for the info Kalu. So I have ordered the 5N0 and I have the red display. I was advised that it would all work and be fine. How would I go about pairing now? With the 10 second window on startup?

Seems like I should have go the 7P6 then? I was advised the 5N0 was the newer unit and the better one to go for.

Earlier revisions of the 5N0 may let you pair without the White Highline, I only tried it with the D version myself...
If you have a D, then you wont be able to pair it at all :(
