hi guys
Can anyone help me with this
I'm looking to hard wire my road pilot with a ign on only
I'm thinking of fitting it near my rear view mirror so thinking of running the power wire from the
over head consule/interior light thingy?
any idea which wires i should run the lead from?

There's loads of free ignition sources in the fusebox under steering wheel.

I'd get a multimeter, find an ignition live, put a fuse in the slot, get a VW repair wire and extend it up the pillar to the mirror, under headlining.

Not sure, I reckon 1mm2 repair wire (18 AWG?) would suffice for this (can't get the part number at minute as I had the parts program on a netbook I just sold).

Or, you could use something like this which means you don't have to take out the fusebox - as long as you pick a circuit that copes with both circuits and doesn't interfere. Fuse layouts will be a tad different due to spec and installed accessories.

Best bet is to use a multimeter on the top pin of the fuse slot, and take a reading with ignition on and off.

I have hardwired my Tom Tom

I will dig out the pic of the slot I used for switched live.

One thing I plan to do to improve it is add a switch so it's not on charge all the time so I don't kill the battery on the Tom Tom.

Also rather than butcher a charging cable I created a female 12v socket in the fuse compartment.

It now has a fuse via an inline fuse holder and I'm
Looking to fit a switch somewhere.

Excuse the stray black wire I've run wire to my rear view mirror for a future mini mod
