MDI part numbers - fitted.
« on: December 21, 2011, 01:50:21 pm »
Folks, can anyone tell me what the differences are between the various MDI dock part numbers?

A few part numbers I've seen on ebay are; 5N0 035 341E, 5N0 035 341B and 5N0 035 342B,

Will all of these work with a Columbus (RNS Ver C), or do some have limitations?

If an armrest dock is bought, can the MDI bit be removed from the amrest housing and fired in the glovebox instead?

Also, can the glove box dock be removed without removing the glovebox? Or does it need dropped down to allow access?

This thread shows how to remove the mdi from the casing http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,16348.0.html

As far as i know all the part numbers you've listed will work, i think you will have to check the firmware and maybe update

I'm no expert and this is just info i gathered when doing mine

Hopefully somebody with more knowledge will be along soon to confirm or deny

Well I picked up an armrest dock on eBay for £26, the loom from Kufatec and borrowed the iPod lead from my wifes Mk6.

I've just spent the last hour fitting it and what a total nightmare! I've fitted a lot of car radios in my time, but fitting the MDI loom was the most difficult! It probably wasnt helped by the fact that I already have a Parrot loom, but there was absolutely no room to put the quadlock adapters. I ended up take the connections out of the male end so I could pass it behind the cage to tuck it between the glovebox and the radio. My hands are torn to shreds!

The end result is that the MDI is fantastic! Just need a cheap iPod now and my own iPod lead.
