Symptoms of faulty MAF?

I have a rough idea that this is a problem im having with my car, its a 2006 gti.

What would be the symptoms I would be seeing if this was my problem?

Disconnect the maf connector. If your idling improves then it's suggestive of a failing/dirty maf.

Won't the car throw up a fault light on the dash though?

It may but once you reconnect the maf and do a few ignition starts it should disappear.

The reason I asked was my car seems flat through the rev range, everything else seems to check out fine and one of the things I havent changed is the MAF.

A while ago I done the check when I disconnected it from the car and took it for a run and it made no difference at all. Would this tell me mine has had its day?

Sounds like your issue lies elsewhere...

Have you checked your DV as it may be leaking/torn if it isn't the latest D version?

Yeah that has already been changed, the n75 valve has been changed and a boost gauge has been plumbed in which shows no leaks.

I had just been advised from two machanics that my MAF is where the problem could be

A faulty one results in a rough idle and over-revving. It's a common problem but fortunately doesn't cost much to replace.

I have done internet checks about symptoms of a failing pcv and it does sound along the right lines, would this cause a noticeable block/leak of boost?

Im sure my boost guage was plumbed in just before the pcv and up to there the car was consistently making 16psi with no leaking, spiking etc....
