Boot Release Not Closing Fully
« on: January 03, 2012, 08:28:32 pm »
Hi guys, I picked my car up from the repair centre today and have noticed the boot release isn't closing fully. Is it OK to spray some WD40 into the mechanism?

Dont suppose you've any warranty left???

Its quite a common fault apparently. I had the whole lot replaced under warranty just before it expired

The new one they fitted felt soooo different. I remember thinking at the time how easy it was to operate. Really loose in comparison to the old mechanism, and the new spring was amazing.

No, no warranty, the car is six years old. It's always been absolutely fine - strange that it should happen when it's away from me.

If it's another thing gone wrong then it will absolutely be the last straw. I'm really quite fed up with the thing now.

OK, so the WD40 hasn't worked. Is there a chance that the car being sat out in the cold for 3 weeks has seized the mechanism?
