New wheels
« on: January 04, 2012, 08:02:02 pm »
Recently I did a swap with a chap on another forum for a set of 19's. I swapped my standard cupra 18's that i'd had newly refurbed in gloss black all with 6mm ps2's on for a set of 19" ri,ms in less than perfect nick with 2 bald tyres and 2 shat cheapo ones.

Now I know your all thinking that I'm nuts about now, but there was a method to my madness. I had just bought the Forge 8 pot setup and they will only go under 19's. So thats that.

Not quite. After a day or 2 I set off to get a pair of new contis fitted at the local shop, only to be told that one of the wheels had 6 YES 6 cracks in it !! I had the tyre fitted on the basis that i'd order a new wheel and then have them all refurbed black again.

That was 6 weeks ago, and to cut a long story short (too late) it turns out that they no longer make this wheel any more, and worse still the importer didnt have any either. After trying every stockist in the country (probably) i couldnt find anyone with one in stock so i finally gave up and ordered a new set today of these

I'll take a couple of pics once there fitted (should be tomorrow).

What do ya reckon ?

I looked at these sometime ago when wheel shopping. Unusual with the red highlights.
Very dainty with delicate looking spokes. Try not to kerb them.
Congratulations.  :congrats:

That's pants about the wheels you swapped - I bet you wanted to kill whoever swapped with you!

The new wheels look smart, be interested to see what they look like on  :happy2:

They look light too, how heavy are they?

I did for a bit, but he seemed like a straight up guy, and he didnt know his arse from his elbow about motors so i'd hope he didnt know.

Not sure how light they are to be honest, at a guess i'd say about 17kgs each going by others that i've had of similar design. I'll weigh them when they arrive and let you know, I'll also post up some pics asap. :happy2:

be interested if anyone knows what the standard cupra wheels weigh ?

Those are very light! Very impressive if they're strong as well. Try to avoid potholes and testing that for me please. :happy2:
Sarcasm for free. Anything after that can only be considered as a bonus.

Just because you think you know something, doesn't make you an expert if you've just read it on the internet, y'know.

Look forward to knowing what you thing of the forge brakes as I ave been looking at them for my car

The forge brakes are the nuts mate. I have the 8 pot set up which they never put into production (they only do the 6 pots ). They are made by K-Sport (I am told) http://www.ksport.co.uk/order.asp?id=377&loc=2  they are the 8 pot 356mm set up, at £899 they are quite a bit cheaper than forge.

The pedal feel and bite when cold and at low speeds is EXACTLY the same as the factory 345mm single pot set up from Seat was, which was a huge relief as i was concerned about why forge opted for the 6 pots instead. I now think its that the 8 pots are a squeeze under 18's I'd think (I have 19's) so that you put others off.

Thery come into there own when heated up and from high speeds, at 100mph they stop you so quickly its scary. When driving spiritedly down roads I know well I found myself having to get back on the throttle as I'd over braked and come up short of the bend ! They are well suited to the car, both the piston size and the balance are perfect, the car never feels like its light at the back when under heavy pedal, and as said they feels like stock when driving around town.

All in all a good set of stoppers in my book.

I'll get some pics up as soon as i get a chance to clean her (Sunday I think).

cheers for the positive comments guys  :happy2:
