Looking at buying an Edition 30 GTi. Advice needed!

Hi everyone,

I'm looking at buying a new car but have been struggling to decide what I actually want for around 2 or 3 months now and think I might have settled on an ED30 finally. My list recently has gone from a Range Rover Sport -> Audi Q7 -> BMW 335i/d -> Audi S3 -> ED30.

I have found one online that got me interested but it's modified. I don't mind subtle modifications usually if it's done right but this one I'm looking at looks ok I think, not usually my cup of tea but I seem to like it. It is advertised on AT and on PH and has been for at least a month or so from what I'm told but hasn't been sold yet so I'm just wondering if anyone has any advice about it.

It is advertised at being 350bhp but when I asked about the dyno print out it says it is running 266bhp at the wheels so to my ROUGH working out it's anything from 300-325bhp at the fly wheel. I don't mind too much about what power it is as my current cars are quicker than most cars I've seen but I'm wanting to start being a bit sensible and always wanted a Golf GTi since being a young kid.

I suppose it all depends if the car has been looked after or not. The fact it's modded wouldn't bother me, but whats been done, by who and how well, would.  

Pretty sure that car was for sale on here for months!!

Not my cup of tea but everyone's different!  Looks to have gone a bit to far on the mods and much prefer an unmolested example.....much more classy 

I've always kept my cars standard and in my opinion my ED30 is plenty quick enough for day to day use 

However, I'm sure there's plenty on here that will recommend a few mods.....stage 1 on the Eddie seems to make a good difference but still very useable.

Good luck with the hunt for the right car, whatever you decide you won't go far wrong with the Edition 30 but be patient for the right one.

You seem to like the same cars as me.....Edition 30 is a fantastic choice for an all round fun practical car (especially the 5 door) They want too much money for that car and i would buy one off here. Also the mileage is high but i suppose that depends on how much you are going to use it......mine hasn't done 19k yet , then i haven't used it for 6 weeks.

An Edition 30 with more than 300bhp is not useable anyway and even the 230bhp standard as others have said is plenty. Get a standard one.

I quite like it, dont mind a modded car but must admit I prefer to do the modding myself on a std car. Although havent felt the need on the ED30.

You can always buy mine for £12k fully loaded, 37k miles if you would rather have a blank canvas though

With that mileage it would depend when the mods were done as even if the figures are accurate 69k miles wear and tear from 350 bhp is going to be more than a few thousand. A lot of those miles are probably hard driving and knowing there have been issues with the DSG there could be some expensive bills looming. Also IMO it is way over priced for the age and mileage even with the mods, not my cup of tea. If it has been up for sale for sometime then plenty of people will have walked away for one reason or another.

Thanks for all the replies guys. I have been thinking of just going with a standard one with low miles and as much extras as possible etc but I just don't seem to find any with lots of extras when I do look for one. Found a few nice black cars but majority of my cars have been black so trying to find one a different colour now. Oh and also It'd need to be an auto because I now only have one leg lol so my licence has been limited to automatics now. If anyone has any ED30's they can recommend that they know are for sale then please let me know.

I'm actually glad most have pretty much said it's not worth the money etc as I was a bit unsure myself.

Just not that one. A decent well cared for one with average miles circa 40k would be worth around that figure in my mind. There does seem a gap appearing with similar aged GTI's.

Or could have been perfect for you. Xenons, Nav, ipod connect, armrest, Highline, Winter and Lux packs, folding mirrors with puddle lights, new winter tyres and ED30 mats and just serviced. Is that rubbing it in lol, sorry.

You just have to wait a little for the right ED30, sure a good dsg will come along. Let you know if I see any.

Some examples have been advertised for ages and they all seem to be very basic specs. The ones with a few extras seem to sell pretty quickly, i'd look for xenons, mfsw, highline, armrest.

Check service history, seviced ideally every year on time & distance, cambelt/pump every 4 yrs or 60k i think. If it DSG then the box needs an oil filter change every 40k also.

Can't cope with 300bhp   think your on the wrong site   as I think most of us are mapped/tuned over that and they can handle way more too
