Pioneer F9110BT - who's used one?
« on: January 13, 2012, 02:53:40 pm »
Thinking of putting my Zenec HU in my mrs' Altea (even she admits she could do with a reversing camera  )

Would like to go the RNS route however, with changing the gateway, adding a BT kit and possibly losing my current number plate camera, it's just too expensive compared to what I want to spend.

So...has anyone got experience of the F9110BT? I see they are sub £300 at the minute used.

My main questions are...

- Does the rear view camera automatically come up on screen when reverse is engaged? I'd like to keep my existing discrete camera rather than the optional Pioneer one I see in the manual.
- How does the camera get power? I see on the loom there is a brown Camera Input plug, but can't see a Camera + and Camera GND (my Zenec has these which I spliced into).
- Does track info come up on the Highline display?

Any help appreciated.
Used to have Edition 30 - number 009 and a GT TDI 140.
Now have an S4 B8 Avant (stage 2)

Or has anyone got experience in general of the AVIC HU's, VW specific ones or otherwise?

I can only relate my previous experience when looking for an HU for the wife's Santa Fe. I looked at the Pioneer and that was top of my list until I went and actually tried one. Personally I didn't like the interface and felt it was a little laggy. Better than the Kenwood, but not that great.

I ended up getting her the Clarion NX501E. Excellent unit, with the most modern interface of all the units, much like the Iphone's. Nav works a treat with traffic, etc. Much better than my RNS 510 tbh. Bluetooth, DVD all in one package. But if you go for one of these, you will need a double din adapter.

Not sure if that's been a help or not, but my recommendation would be to get down to a decent Car sound place and test drive one of the units on display.

Thanks guys, I might go along to an audio shop see what they have out.

The AVIC units take a camera but it seems to have its own plug. Doesn't seem like anyone has put their own camera into one of these units??

Not too fussed about built in satnav as I always have the latest TomTom maps anyway.

Might stick to what I know and try get a Zenec NC2010 then give her my MC2000, but they seem to be getting more expensive over time, not cheaper!

I had a Pioneer X1 BT. The sat nav was a waste of time, I had no faith in it at all, tho this was 4 years ago. The unit had to be repaired once in teh year I had it too but a specialist. Was not happy so have gone a Kenwood DNX now, and very happy with the Garmin navigation on it, but also a flimsy unit if you ask me.
