7.910 seconds. I thought it would be interesting to log the 0-60 in the real world of my car, in real conditions driving with mechanical sympathy. I used a highly accurate in car data logger to record the true speed, not the speedo dial, and then logging software to analyse the data. i.e. there is no human error of clicking a stopwatch or trying to mark a position on the road. Below is the graph plot.
I'm personally not into traffic light grand prixs so launched the car with traction control on at just below 2000 rpm, it was not violent. I changed gears quickly but not slamming them. I got a little bit of wheel spin whilst the traction control tried to sort things out. Also I am not an expert in launching a car.
I changed gears just before the redline and no limiter kicked in. No doubt if I revved higher, fed the clutch in better, then redlined, slammed it into 2nd gear and held it to 60 on the limiter in 2nd then the time would have been faster and closer to the factory tests (where they have spare clutches and running gear
).
You can see by the flat parts on the curve where I change gear and how long it takes.
My car is completely standard.
So in other words I drove it probably like most real world drivers would unless they are trying to thrash the car. It still felt nippy to me. Great all round car the GTI, the last VW I had was a Scirocco Scala in 1994 and loved it. I'm pretty new to the GTI and this forum, it seems a great place. I'll stick 50-70 in gear (3rd and 5th) logs up shortly as well.
