Exhaust noise from R32 style exhaust
« on: January 08, 2012, 07:53:08 pm »
Hello all,

I picked up my black gti last week from another forum member and can say i'm really pleased with it! I'll get up a proper thread up when i've got some decent photos.

Anyway at the weekend i picked up a R32 rear bumper and it came with the exhaust pictured below. Now with this fitted there will be no backbox. Just the mid box. How loud do you reckon this will be? I dont mind the car grumbling when you press the loud pedal but i go to work at 5.30 am so can't have it loud on idle as my neighbours wont be best pleased. Do you guys reckon this will be ok to fit or would you recommend i sell it and get a milltek instead?

Thanks

James :)

I had this straight thru pipe (below) on my GT TDi and it barely made any difference. Maybe I could hear the turbo spooling a little but only under heavy loading and when letting off the throttle. To be honest the back box is one of the most restrictive parts of your exhaust and that pipe will free up the escaping gases a good bit. Best value go-faster mod for your exhaust. If you do decide to sell on the Y-piece piping I'm sure there are a lotta other members on here who will happily take it.  :happy2:

Yes dodds your right when your on about a diesel but with a petrol the back pressure is totally different,  that pipe shown will be loud.

Sorry mate but looking at that hanger on that pipe, it will be a bugger to fit and will rattle.

Point duly noted. Ah, the simplicity of diesels.  :signLOL: not.

Bang it on and see if you like before dismissing it, it is only back box, won't be that loud.

I would throw it on to try it but you have to cut up the original system which puts me off trying it.  :scared:

original systems are just about worthless. you can sometimes pick them up off eBay and the like for £50-£100. for the sake of savnig up for a Milltek (£1000+ brand new) you might as well give it a go. you might like it and keep it at the end of the day!

The pic above looks like my friends R32 setup which he recently sold (could be the actual one you have), And it was very loud,  :chicken:
