ipod dock not working - please help....
« on: January 07, 2012, 05:47:37 pm »
My ipod dock was working fine until after the New Year.  Now for some reason it does not work - when I insert the ipod it does not show the VW logo like it used to and the display on the head unit says NO CDC.

I have checked all the wiring and it seems to be fine.

Any ideas anyone please??????

Thanks

Is your ipod battery charged or flat?
Without traction power is nothing!

There crap and dont last my OH had a brand new one fitted under warrenty a year ago and thats given up the ghost already, if you do a VCDS scan it will say CD Changer Faulty (or words to that effect) if so the dock is shot, you could strip it down and look for a broken solder joint or just replace it

Not the best then - my dad had it in bits but could not see anyhting on the circuit board that looked broken.

Any ideas on how much these are to replace?

Rachels was replaced FOC but the service manager didnt want to do it, claiming they dont have an ipod to use to confirm it wasnt working, i told Rach to tell them it shows on a full scan, he went red faced and said ok we will change it for you madam, IIRC its about £150 from the stealer

I still kick myself for paying VW £150:00 for the Ipod connector as its complete waste of time.

So what are the more reliable and cost effective options for using my ipod given the comments about the poorness of the VW ipod dock?

Thanks

Another option - I may have a MDI dock available - the one that goes in the armrest, which i believe works for ipods/iphones with the right cable (cheap on ebay) which would also allow you to see tracks on screen if you have and RNS/RCD510. Not sure if the cable loom that connects to it is the same as the ipod dock, sure someone on here would know.

If you are interested let me know, and if the sale of it doesnt happen to the current person (not on this forum) you can have first refusal. Wont be anything like £150 either  :signLOL:
VCDS cable HEX-USB+CAN. New but can do the basics including coding

Will bear that in mind cheers and hopefully someone will be able to point me in the right direction with wiring that I have available to the current dock.  Car is also due a service soon and is only about 6 months out of warranty so will also see if I can blag anything from VW or at the least get a discount!

Yes I have, I fitted the centre console one and tbh it was crap when it packed up I was give the oem glove box one (like the one in the link) and that was perfect, I've got a Brodit phone clip so I use to plug my iPhone in and use it for music can't recommend it high enough tbh
