Service and cambelt price
« on: January 11, 2012, 12:20:45 pm »
I have just booked my car in at VW to have a 70,000 miles service, 165 quid all in, is this a good price? I queried the price on a cambelt change as I will need mine doing in 6 months when next service comes around and its 420 quid  :rolleye:   Is this a good price, they said it included 20 pct off as there is a special on at moment !!

cheers

Look online,  VW fixed price cambelt change £349, cambelt & waterpump, is £399.  :happy2:

I'd have thought that if you were having a service done also then they may have done abit of deal, well atleast my dealer does anyway.

You might be lucky with getting a quote, or maybe not. They'll be aware of the VW scheme, and a constant trickle of new customers coming in for a written quote stating "genuine parts" will be ****ing them off.  No doubt they'll know where you're going to go and won't be bothered with wasting their time. I know I wouldn't.

Also, I wouldn't get an old invoice from the garage and modify it into a quote with photoshop. Then I certainly wouldn't print it off and take that to VW. That's not on really, is it.
Sarcasm for free. Anything after that can only be considered as a bonus.

Just because you think you know something, doesn't make you an expert if you've just read it on the internet, y'know.

The quotes I got from local garage were for genuine parts also so the £247 quote for cambelt/tensioners and Water pump was spot on!.
TBH i would not expect anything less, he has been servicing my cars for almost 15 years lol

contacted a local VW specialist and they have quoted £360 for the cambelt with waterpump and £400 with pump and rollers.

Anyone know if a, the £400 VW stealers fixed price includes the rollers and b, if the rollers need replacing anyway?

Cheers

As per the link above the VW fixed prices have changes slightly (mostly gone up...but not all).

Cambelt for £339 (£10 less)
Cambelt and waterpump £419 (£20 more)

2 year servicing £379 (£20 more) I took this out on 21 Dec for £349, so just got in before the price increases

just booked the old girl in for the cambelt/water pump change and got my local (aylesbury) VW dealer to match the price of the local specialist....£378 all in. £42 in my pocket rather than theirs.
Wish I had quoted £350 now as they declined my offer of a copy of the quote!!

Just to bumo this thread back up, anyone had a cambelt, pump and service done lately, if so what have you paid?

I've just booked my car in at Smith Knight Fay in Bolton, originally said £550 all in for a belt, waterpump and minor service. Managed to get them down to £478.

I got a quote from another garage of £414, they said they couldnt match that price and come down that low but would do it for the above price.

Not too bad i dont think, just shows there is a bit of movement if your cheeky!

Had my Edition 30 cambelt/Waterpump done last week, £510 all in for cambelt/waterpump service, aircon service and brake fluid service and that included £10 for the insurance for the courtesy car, managed to negotiate a deal with service manager, always worth asking  :happy2:

I also made sure to ask them to replace the 3 bolts and tensioners/rollers (which they did) as some VW garages doe just tensioner and not rollers and others do tensioner and rollers but not bolts, best to ask to be safe!
