Slight miss/hesitation and odd noise once switched off
« on: April 20, 2009, 09:43:25 pm »
OK, had bit of strange one today.

Car was slightly hesitant on the way home work tonight...felt like it was missing slightly at low revs in 4th (at a fraction under 30mph).

Got home, let the car idle for a minute and then switched off.  As I walked around the car I could hear a strange noise.  It was most noticeable on the drivers side of the car...as I stooped down by the petrol cap I could hear a "glugging" or "dripping" sound coming from what seemed to be the petrol tank area.

Is this likely to be a bit of trapped air ?  I fuelled up late yesterday and hadn't had this problem until today (damn BP cr*ppy petrol !).

Any thoughts ?

Daz

You do realize, Stealth wolf will not sleep tonight now and will be under his car as i post this.
I think you just thought it was to do with the juice, so you heard something in that area, that you would not normally be know where near.

I have heard this before something to do with pressure realise valve back to the fuel tank. Sounds like a glugging sound more then anything.I wouldn't worry Soundlab, sounds like the same thing.

Slight miss/hesitatation would be something else. Is your Car Remapped or stock?

It's completely stock.

It was audible enough that I managed to get a recording on to my phone of it ! lol !

Just seems a bit odd that the car was quite hesitant and then I had this noise 10 mins later.  I wouldn't be surprised if the hesitation is BP fuel related, my Skyline didn't like that stuff at all.  I only put the BP in as it was on the route home...

Nope, no warning lights, etc.  Everything else seems fine.

Just got slightly concerned when I heard this "glugging" sound after switching it all off.  As you say, could be a pressure release  valve or something like that.

You realise I have a fear of being trapped under a vehicle and refused to change rims without chocking the other three wheels and placing the removed wheel next to the jack should the jack fail?

I also had a mate bring an ambulance and a fire truck round so if anything did happen, I'd be taken to hospital fairly quickly.

Furthermore I took the liberty of texting the ITU consultant and telling him what I was about to do just so he'd know what injuries to expect. I also asked him to inform the Trauma and Orthopaedics registrar so he could prepare a theatre on standby.

I then had a thiry minute long chat with immediate family members and told them I loved them. I also told them where my will was and where I had buried the treasure.

That's why it was 3pm when I had started to change the wheels and ran out of daylight.

Also, soundlab if you listen closely, when you put the key in and turn it, just before starting the ignition, there's a whole load of noises coming from the engine bay.

There's also some funny noises when you turn the car off and a little red light flashes too.
