Ok this is now driving me a little mad.
I'm definitely selecting the correct option (setting automatic opening to on)
I've read and double checked the booklet that came with the car 3.1 controls and Equipment for the Golf GTI so I know it should open the car when I take the key out the ignition.

It's refusing to work. Is there a chance something is broke? I can't think why else it wouldn't work but the menu appears to be saving my selection.

I've also noticed in the booklet it states there should be a lights and vision menu which wil let you chance the time your headlight stay on for with the leaving and coming home feature.
However this menu doesn't exist on my car.

Does anyone have any ideas why it wouldn't?
Or does anyone else have this option?

My car is a late 2008 if that makes any difference.
The weird thing is auto close works, it's the auto open that refuses to work.

I always wanted Vag-con for my old car so I think it's now time I got vcds.
Where is the best place to get the cable? Fleabay?

Steer clear of the cheap ebay copies. If your going to treqt yourself I'd save the money and get a genuine one. At least you get tech support from Ross-tech then too. Fire a PM to NHN off here. I know he sells them or alternatively try http://www.mi-uk.com/products/accessories/vag-com-diagnostic/

That's where I had mine from.
