Ex Edition 30 owners - what did you change yours for?
« on: January 11, 2012, 09:02:26 pm »
Well, it's with a heavy heart I have to consider selling the Ed30. I don't *really* want to sell her, but I feel it's time for a change. Previously, the longest I'd kept a car for was 18 months (Clio Cup from brand new) - more often it would be a change every 6-9 months. The Edition 30 I've had since new (April 08) which should tell you a lot about how much I've enjoyed her.

So, other than I've had her for a wee while, why sell? Well I've got a 3rd car which is now used for commuting duties, supermarket trips, chucking the bike in etc, and I don't get the time to just enjoy driving the Golf at the weekend (2 small kids means I can't just up sticks and bugger off for a drive like I used to!!) So it's sitting in the garage, not getting used other than the occassional trip, gentley depreciating. Seems a shame really  :ashamed:

Problem is, I can't really find anything I want to change the Golf for!  I've had nutter jap mobiles, hot hatches, premium German coupes and estates previously and not really feeling the urge for another one.

What I really want know from other ex-Edition 30 owners is what did you change yours for, do you like it more/less than the Golf (and do you still miss it!)?

Cheers

Have exactly the same dilemma myself.  I've had my Ed30 for 3 years and just don't know what to change it for.  Maybe an Edition 35 or an R?  Trouble is, as much as I would want one of these, I still can't get to grips with the current prices for these models and the likely depreciation!

If you don't get the time to use your Golf, when are you going to get the time to use a new toy?

Plus, what sort of budget have you got? Presumably because of your other cars practicality doesn't have to be a consideration.

same but different, my .:R32 was just sitting there until someone made me an offer i couldnt refuse and off it went, that was back at the start of the summer and only now bought a replacement

once you enjoy a car you often compare everything to it so took me ages to decide on what to get next, couldnt decide on anything modern so decided to start working my way through the list of cars ive always wanted to own but didnt get round to it and went for a 12 year old car instead

Lotus Elise...fun weekend car  :driver:

Not very dignified getting in and out of one though

I got a 5 door 1.9CDTi Astra, had that for 4 weeks then I stole my mums 206 of her for a year and then traded that in last year for a 2010 Corsa  :ashamed:

Keeping that till the MOT is due in June 2013 then I should be in a good position to get myself something German powered again after I kick my arse onto the property ladder.

Having bought and sold 2 Mk5 GTi's to try something else prooves futile!! I'm now back with my 3rd GTi being my 5 door Ed30. There is only 3 cars I would consider to fill the ed30's boots, and that's the R ,ed35, or Audi S3 Sportback.Nothing else on the road is as practical, for my situation with 2 kids.Ive purchased a brand new 5dr Hyundai i10 to do the town /school runs makes keeping the car more an option. It's there if I need it for the family, or wrapped up for whenever I get chance to go and enjoy it. .....which isn't often either!!, but I've missed my Gti's too much in the past, so I'm not gonna do the same mistake again. She will only go if I need the funds, and fortunately I don't need the money any time soon.

Having the i10 stops me having to purchase a Ford S max or something similar  :signLOL:

Had our Ed 30 from new Oct 2008, sold Nov 2011............3 years 4,000 miles. Loved the golf (my 4th) Had intended to keep it but always dreamed of a 911! Oppurtunity arose and now have a 997C2. It's a different driving experience and ticks all my boxes. The sound effects make you want to 'use it' all the time.  :happy2:

How do you find it compares to the Ed30?

I've only had my Ed30 for a year and it's fantastic with all the options, mods, etc... but there's part of me that really wants an RS whilst I'm still quite young! :ashamed:

Ive driven one at work and they do sound great, not as nice to be sat in as the Golf and not as efficient but the noise alone will make up for that.

This was in Green so grabbed too much attention for my liking, wouldnt be in my hands long in bloody Bradford.
