Brake fluid question?
« on: January 10, 2012, 07:11:45 pm »
I have just got the NQSBBK and am going to fit it myself.

After i have fitted all the parts i will bleed the front brakes just enough to get them working so i can drive it down to my local AMD who will then do a full flush threw using Motul RBF600.

The question i have is, could i just use a bit of halfords DOT4 brake fluid to top it up with whilst i bleed the new brakes just to drive it down the road to AMD?

The halfords stuff would be fine.  Most Dot 4 is the same stuff with just a different label and it wont be in there for long anyway.  Just dont get air into the master cylinder.  Make sure you dont do more than 15-20 pumps per side after topping up the fluid each time.

Hi,

I have just purchased the NSBBK recently also and will be fitting it soon.
Just wondering if there is much of an advantage in using better brake fluid over standard DOT 4 and what would they be?
I wont be doing any track days. The reason I went for the NSBBK kit was my last car was an S3 with better brakes so I wanted better stopping on the GTI.

By the time you have bled the system enough to drive you may as well just DIY the refill with your fluid of choice.

i was thinking maybe i should do the flush through myself. but dont you need vcds to activate the ABS pump?

Or is it not worth worrying about the little bit of fluid in the pump?

Teutomic tamer posted about the fluid in the pump being minging and well worth cycling through
