How to remove this paint?
« on: January 14, 2012, 11:02:06 am »
After living with it for a while, i am thinking that i may have been better off leaving the vw emblem either chrome or wrap/spray it black.  i used rattle cans from vw and the result is briliant, so how is the best way of removing the reflex silver paint from the emblem only, not the rest of the handle, preferably whilst it is still on the car?  thanks.

not advisable to start stripping paint whilst its still on the car...

remove the badge then you can go to town on it using a decent thinner/paint stripper

I agree with apples12, I had the same issue I bought a tin of thinner and used a ear bud lol. But with that you will need to be really careful and it is time consuming :(. Initially if you pull up the hatch release you can remove the emblem easily using a credit card or something similar and the just soack the full emblem in thinner and it would do the job.

I'd separate the badge from the mechanism and give a coat of gloss Black.

Yes it's a two piece assembly. You need to get a very small felt blade screwdriver or credit card behind it and it will click off all the way around. Doesn't really matter if a few of the lugs snap off as there are plenty!  :happy2:
