Remap is to be an MOT failure??
« on: January 18, 2012, 10:23:17 am »
I've just been informed by my mechanic that things like remaps, removal of dpf, cats or lights on dash will be an MOT failure.

Any one heard anything more on this?

It's the piggy back chip ones that are getting done and well if your car should have a cat or PDF and its gone then so it should be a failure just stick it back on for the mot and as for lights on the dash well what do you expect,if the airbag light is On then its a safety thing so defo a fail and abs lights on fail what's wrong with that  :rolleye: it's for your and our safety on the road

Lights on dash is a yes, and possibly with the dpf removal due to emisions. But a remap hell no. Unless to do with fueling/emissions.
Or just pay for a dodgy Mot, £50 happy days, and they get to tell you what you need to do on your car. winwin

thier is no way a mot tester will heve the technology to test for a remap--well not this year any way :signLOL:--cats on petrols have to be on and any warning lights on the dash is a fail

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

Hopefully for more than the day of the test too...

Removing the cat will fail it

Correct, unless you know somebody who can pass it for you which is what i tried explaining earlier. Saving you to remove the decat, refit oem, then refit the decat back on.

If your running a De-cat and If your local garage/testing station know you and you turn up showing them you have a cat then they may pass you anyway saving the hassle of fit and remove, but beware the road side testing stations, I got pulled in about 5 years back in my MK4 1.8T and after a quick scan under my car they shoved a pipe up my rear end testing for emmisions  I was running a Milltek TBE with high flow cat so passed with flying colours, I asked what happens if your running de-cat and they said a large fine and you have 7 days to sort it!

If fitted and aligned correctly HID's are not a failure!

Thats why I used the words dodgy and illegal.  However most would appear to be illegal.  Mostly on some 15 year old car with £50 of halfords crap gaffer taped to it and a 17 year old spacker behind the wheel.

Mine were £49.99......... :sad1:  But not from Halfrauds and not a sign of gaffer tape, honest!  :pomppomp:

I hear what your saying though, badly fitted HID's fitted in a Corsa with with reflector headlights (not using reflector HID's) are a big problem.  I thought I was going to have to remove mine 'permanently' as of now due new rules, but they have been relaxed, so now if you have after market HID's fitted you don't have to have washers or self levelling - if you have got those however they must work!
