DSG Remap on Stage 1, Do I need it?
« on: January 19, 2012, 08:36:48 am »
Hi,

I am booked in for a stage 1 remap at the weekend her in Ireland.  I asked the company about a DSG remap and he said he can do it but that I would not need it on a stage1.
Does anyone agree?
I am unsure what advantages a DSG remap would bring and do I really need one. ]

Can anyone offer a little advice, it would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

I don't understand, if your having a stage one remap that will be done as stage one remap for dsg. Do you mean going stage 2 directly?

Look on revo and if you go here http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/board,33.0.html you will find all the information your wanting for all the different companys and stages of remapping.

sky's the limit, only you can decide whether you want to go past stage one. Its personal, a lot of people will say do it but it might not suit your roads / personal preference / insurance / wallet / petrol. Some people get stage one and are more than happy - others seek more and end up stage three or four (the stage four kit looks insane though)

Thanks Nezquick. I read through that.

Sorry I was not clear enough in the question. I am remapping to a stage 1 with induction kit and Milltek cat back, but as far as I understand I can also remap the DSG transmission seperately to the engine.
I will be staying at a stage 1 as thats all the wallet can afford but I wondered fi a transmission remap would be an advantage also?

He is correct, you don't 'need' it on stage 1.

But then again, when is it ever about what one needs?

A DSG remap adjusts the gearbox settings. I think it makes quicker changes,  raises the rev limiter, removes auto upshift & kickdown (in manual). May do something else as well but they're the main features.
GTI going...

Thanks all for the advice. I think that answers my question.
I will leave it as standard so. I wont be covering any track days or even close. Cant wait to see how the car is with stage 1, love it already so hoping it makes a difference.
