Which MDI holder is this?
« on: January 19, 2012, 12:06:45 pm »
Hiya guys

I'm looking into getting a MDI armrest insert to replace my now non functioning CD Autochanger

i saw this

Which looks different to others. This one looks like it has a dock to actually hold the ipod.

I'm just wondering does anyone have this one, or the one when you just place the ipod/iphone in, wondering if this is compatible with iphone 4/4S? might cause problems in the future when the phone design changes?

2004 GT TDI 2.0 (140bhp) - Mods so far - GTI pedals, GTI Interior Metal Strips, GTI Metal Ashtray, Gear Knob with metal surround, TPMS (with switch), RNS-510, Skoda bluetooth kit, Armrest MDI, VCDS owner (Bristol)

That's the iPod dock but it is not as good as the MDI. Basically it's like a 6CD changer so the cd's are your first 6 playlists and cd 6 is a random list. All playlists are 99 songs long regardless of there are more on the playlist and it show no info on the HU

It doesn't charge later models of iPod/iPhone and my iPhone 3GS was a tight fit and haven't bothered trying my 4s

Ah thanks for that, will go with the proper one then, like to the look of this one but if it has less functionality dont see the point!!

My ipod has recently packed up and other forum members have stated they have had numerous issues with their ipod docks.  In summary they would seem to be a load of cack so good choice in going with the alternative.

Its fairly simple to swap over but the mdi kit will only work with rns510/310 and rcd510/310

You will need the dock and loom as its a different loom, it plugs into your original quadlock then into the back of the headunit them run the cable to the armrest job done :)
Rns510 ver C LED-£550, Rns510 ver B-£460, Video In Motion £45, Genuine Full VCDS

The part number is only going to be for the mdi module. Basically all you need is a armest mdi kit.
