Some kind of trim sealant would keep it looking black for longer.
TBH I find it much easier to clean the grille by taking it off the car first. Then I can really give it a good scrub and pressure wash.

I used to take this off the car when washing, then wash and dry it separately. Then go over with quick detailer. it would then last a good few washes and never looked tatty as it does after a wash.

I've used CarPro PERL on grilles before as it gives a very nice natural finish, but unfortunately there is no other way of applying it properly than getting in there with cotton wood buds or something similar!

I asked this on Dw, cleaning is best to take it off and scrub it then either gtehniq c4, pricey but is apparently excellent or plasticare trim dye off eBay for half the cost.
Im going with the c4.
