Pagid pads & Discs fitted
« on: April 23, 2009, 11:37:16 am »
Anyone using PAGID Blue RS4-2 pads? I've been using EBC yellow stuff with my drilled discs but their not great for more than a couple of track days. Had a chat with Brembo dealers and they recommend slotted front discs with Pagid blue pads which work well for more trackdays and road use, the pads are a bit pricey thought £180 for the fronts

Edit: Went for the Slotted Brembo's & Pagid Blue pads as this combo was recommended by www.racepads.co.uk who are now the only importer of Brembo so hopefully know their stuff. Much better than EBC/drilled disc's, and feel good from cold  :happy2:
I think if I'd have known I would be doing this many track days I'd have gone for 2 piece/floating discs  :signIWS:

Drilled discs  :rolleye: 100% right Tony.

I much prefer hair round it.

Someone I know with an LCR track car and Brembos swears by Mintex, and that gets some serious abuse. They've tried most things and reckon they work best.

I like DS2500's personally, never killed a set yet.

I think the RS24-1 are meant to be pretty good. I was considering those for my R32 brakes when they get fitted...

I am at the moment contemplating  DS2500's to go with my R32 brakes but know the Pagid,s are really good so I'm a bit torn myself

Do the DS2500's squeak at slow braking speeds out of interest?  I used to run them on my Impreza and they were very good pads but had an annoying squeak when used at very slow speeds.  Just thinking where I will go, when it comes time to replace mine.

Luca, I can vouch for the Carbotech pads, my wife has them on her remapped Colt CZT, the performance is astonishing. According to Carbotech they will trigger the brake warning light on the Golf as they dont come with brake wear connectors.

Hmm  mine never squeaked, on any of the cars. Did you slap loads of copper grease in there?

Robern2 - you can disable the brake wear indicator with vadgecom to save you messing with the wiring.

ferodo/pagids/mintex all better than EBC IMO!!!

I'll second that. Everyone I know who is 'in the know' doesnt like EBC.

I get Ferodo at less than trade price through a friend who works for the distributor and I also swear by them. Never heard them squeal either. I have currently got DS Performance pads on my (non-VW) car and they are excellent and well up to the fast road use and occasional abuse on country roads. IMHO, they are much better for road use as they aren't as harsh as DS2500's and aren't as heat sensitive either but with decent tires and OE discs, they are bloody brilliant. Not that expensive either, even at retail price. I've found DS2500's are quite abrasive and need to be worked to get them up to temp and perform at their best.

Out of interest, what do you guys on DS2500's use disc-wise?

EDIT: Ah - just looked it up. You can't get DSP's for the Mkv GTi, so ignore all that, sorry. And they don't appear to do anything that fit R32 fronts.
Only 250.1bhp - but with that noise, who cares?

Animal - I don't suppose you can lay your hands on a set of DS2500's for some Alcon 4-pots, can you? I wouldn't mind some spares, and cheap as chips ones are even better!!

Discs, I always steer clear of drilled - they're good, but they're prone to cracking. Grooved or cresents is where it's at.

Oh, and EBC are abslolute gash, I ruined a set in less than a day, they actually crumbled to bits.
