K&N 69-9503TFK Air filter
« on: January 22, 2012, 06:51:53 am »
Has anyone got any experience of fitting one of these? Any noticeable changes in performance? K&N claim an extra 18bhp which sounds good for 44 sheets plus VAT!

Fun Golf: 2016 mk7 R DSG 3 door. Work Golf: 2015 mk7 1.4 TSI GT ACT 5 door.
Gone but not forgotten : mk2 Golf GTI 16v, mk4 Golf V6 4Motion, mk5 GTI Storm Developments Stage 1, mk5 GTI Revo Stage 1, BMW 330ci, Skoda Octavia VRS Revo Stage 2, BMW Z4 Sdrive35i.

Sound to good too be true?   :innocent:

I fitted one when i first had the car and it did stuff all   :happy2:

Will improve air flow but will do nothing for performance (nothing you'd notice anyway)

I have one fitted and it does help the engine breath better. The actual intake pipe is larger than the bsh and it measures just under 3inches in diameter so it can shift a lot of air. I removed the heat shielding and find the engine performs better with the full cold air flow from the front. I have always fitted K&N filters to my car as I have not used a bad kit or experienced any problems on any of my cars in 14 years.

How much? Must be some kind of mistake there as that kit is £255.03 + VAT RRP.

The price of £44+ vat will almost certainly be the panel filter

That was mine

Nick at R-Tech yesterday told me to swap it for a dry filter (K&N is oiled) as it can knacker the MAF sensor. Gotta swap it for a pipercross now

That was Jim,  He said some K&N filters are oil and no good for the MAF, if it is an oiled filter then change it for a dry one, if its already dry the leave it  and dont waste your money.

How was the drive home?

Nick - I've sent you an email (to your workshop account) about a little jerkiness on part throttle as it comes on boost in 4th & 5th - apart from that IT'S EPIC!  :happy2:

Feels a lot quicker than the figures suggest! My mate in the passenger seat has woken up with a stiff neck with all that torque

Glad to hear that you're enjoying it Graeme  :happy2:

What figures did you achieve? is there a separate write up somewhere?

Don't wanna hi-jack this thread too much but it made 248bhp and a collossal 311lb/ft of torque, both curves are very smooth and it holds it right up to higher revs. Very impressed with it - although the clutch is struggling a bit (slips in 4-6th if I try to use the torque rather than drop a gear. Helix clutch will be the next mod

Was that the panel filter you had?
