Laser Blue 3dr No 209683, Leather, Monza II's and a few other goodies...........GONE but not forgotten......now in an A4 S-Line Avant 170tdi......god I miss the Gti.

Had the cam belt and water pump done on mine at 4 years old, car has only done 28000 at the time. Also had DSG oil change for peace of mind when selling the car in the future.

Surely this must have been changed though? because regardless of who I've spoken to VW or independants they're stating otherwise regardless of the service regime you're on.
Obviously in 2005 it may have been the case as stated in the service book but at what point was 4yrs or 60/40k introduced?
For example what does it say in service books issued with a 55/06 plate cars etc????

My 07 GTi handbook says check at 60k then every 20k, and change at 120k miles.


this is what i thought it was as my handbook says the same, did you see this in your booklet aswell

Simple reason that dealers say it must be changed at 60k miles is because they get paid for changing it. They don't get paid for inspecting it at a service. They'll also tell you that VW have changed the interval with a TSB (Technical Service Bulletin) but when asked to produce this they never seem to be able to.
Sarcasm for free. Anything after that can only be considered as a bonus.

Just because you think you know something, doesn't make you an expert if you've just read it on the internet, y'know.

Had mine done at 4 years / 21k for peace of mind. Also didn't want any hassle with the warranty should the cambelt fail. It was only £300 including water pump at a local Indy.

I had my cambelt service done at  a VW specialist for £505 they did all the  major service bits oil, fuel pump, spark plugs etc etc plus cambelt, water pump and all so did a brake fluid change to.

Bought my '07 GTI from Listers Nuneaton with just over 31k on the clock.
Car was a month or two shy of 4years old, but they had already changed the cam belt, etc, by the time I first viewed it.
Realise that I probably paid for it somewhere in the asking price, but they obviously adhere to 4 year period for changes.
2014 Mk7 GTI, 5 dr, manual, tornado red, performance pack,
19" santiago's.

With reference to the above post I've finally settled with the dealer and today got the cam belt, all the other goodies and the water pump changed for £166, I still think it should have been changed when i bought the car back in May but not a bad result anyways.
