Castrol Edge, Edge Professional, or Edge Sport?
« on: January 31, 2012, 02:25:43 pm »
I thought this was an easy one, I hear you guys talking Castrol Edge all the time, so went to buy some, and there are a number of variants:

Edge
Edge Professional
Edge Sport
Edge Longlife

I'm on yearly / 10k service intervals, so guess it's not longlife I need. But do I need the Professional one? VW Colbournes in Guildford say so, but I can only find it in 1L bottles, and I don't really trust them anyway!  Is normal Edge ok? I'd really appreciate a quick answer, as I have a big service on Thursday.

you always need longlife oil, even if you're on T&D servicing

but i wasn't aware there were different types of Edge and i don't know the differences between them

You want either Castrol Edge 5W-30 or the newer version Castrol EDGE 5W-30 (FST). On the label it should also say VW 504.0 and 507.0 spec.
Without traction power is nothing!

Great, thanks for that. So I don't need Edge professional? Is the one you mention long-life?

Yes, it's the oil you should use regardless of servicing regime.
