CAP Valuations

Bit cheeky but thought i'd ask anyway. Are there any guys on here in the trade? I've been looking at another car and the price it's up for is a long way off what i've found myself, so just wanted a second opinion or two. I know valuations and what people actually pay are two different things but my research is 6K cheaper than the forecourt sticker. So who's right and who's wrong?

The cars a 1999 (V) Mercedes Benz E55 AMG Estate 7 Seater with 56000 miles forecourt price £8995.

A hell of a lot of car even at that money i'm sure, hence the query regards valuations. Looking forward to some replies

Any CAP or Glass's guide would struggle to value a car of that type and age.

Your best bet is to just have a nosey around all the usual classified and see what they are up for. My Glass's only caters for cars up to 10-11 years old.

My tuppence worth is, it sounds a lot of money for a car of that age with the kind of drink problem it has!

£9k seams crazy considering you can pick up something like a  Porsche Cayenne for the same price?

EDIT, just managed to find it in Glass's and the Retail with 97k on the clock would be £3500!

Ha ha thanks Greeners and betty, like i said I could get it priced at £2900 so was surprised at the forecourt price. I knew one of us had to be wrong! Betty I've always liked those Porsches and didn't realise that was the price they'd hit now...wow! I've always had a hankering for old mercs and AMG's even more. Will have to try a cheeky offer and see what they say.

Yeh the Trade price is around the £2500 mark.........

No worries! Thank You button is only on certain threads I think.

Yeah they have come down loads in price, I only spotted how cheap they were as I looked at home much the RRS has come down! Some can sell for less then 10K now but average 13-16k which isn't all that much honestly.

Make on offer say your going of Glass's and just see what they say!

If it helps anyone else (i don't know what your opinions of these people are Greeners) I used a website called

www.wisebuyers.co.uk  Gave a pretty good breakdown of prices and also works out the price with the adjusted mileage.

Thats why I couldn't believe the difference between the two prices.

Yup I use that site all the time, much better than paying £400 a year for an out of touch Glass's guide!

CAP value for the car in clean condition is £4500 with a retail of £6995.   Below average trade price would be £3400.
