K03 Stage 3 question
« on: January 22, 2012, 08:33:53 pm »
Is an intake required to go stage 3?  I have one fitted but would like to go back to the OE engine cover purely for the quietness. I have fitted the Autotech HPFP internals and will be having a BCS exhaust fitted next month so have all the bits for stage 3.  I know that VWR Racing dont use an intake on stage 3 in order to improve the mid range power rather than peak power. I also know the K04 Gtis run 300bhp with a simple remap and that with the same engine cover.

Isnt stage 3 an upgrade to the KO4 turbo. Or do you mean stage 2+

Sorry. Shark Performance call stage 2+ stage 3.

fwiw I used to run revo stage 2+ with an itg drop in air filter and made very healthy numbers on the dyno.

The main improvement with dumping the oem airbox is a slight gain in boost throughout the rev range and the turbo doesn't have to work as hard.

I just run with an OE panel filter at stage 2+, there isn't much difference in performance as I rarely go high rpm.

You'll see how good the k03 actually is in the low rpm range once you go k04...

I would expect to see spool up time take a little longer with the k04 as its a larger turbo but hopefully no too long  :driver:
