Enlightenement required (springs)
« on: January 16, 2012, 06:42:20 pm »
Sorry guys for being a pain but could anyone just confirm or explain to me how lowering is calculated. From speaking with someone I was told that a lowering spring with a 35mm drop is compared against a stock golf. I.E A standard golf would be lowered 35mm whereas a GTI which may already be 30mm lower than stock would only drop by 5mm with the same spring. Does this mean to drop a GTI by say 15mm a spring with at least 50mm would be required? . Tried looking the information up online but cannot seem to find an answer.

35mm lowering springs will lower your car by 35mm...simple as that!

However high your car is sitting just now, the spring size you go for will lower your car to the ground by that amount  :happy2:

These are the ones I've just bought... as per my thread:

http://www.awesome-gti.co.uk/product.php?xProd=13918

They are for Mk5 GTI's and lower the car by 30-35mm from the current ride height  :happy2:

Hello mate,

If you get the correct springs for your make and model it will be lowered by the said amount.

In a lot of cases yes. A lot of spring manufacturers state that they lower 30mm for example but that is 30mm on a standard ride height 1.4 base spec for example. The sport models like the GT are lowered from the factory. So that 30mm needs the 10-15mm that it was lowered from the factory taking off so they would lower 15-20mm.

However, to add to the confusion, some are for specific vehicles. These below are for the GT & GTI (same part number) They have been developed for that car on the sports suspension so they lower the GT & GTI 30mm. The same springs in the Awesome GTI link above, but slightly cheaper.

Does that mean 30mm on top of the lowered drop or 30mm over standard?

To put this in as simple way as possible. If you buy 35mm lowering springs FOR A GTI, then they will lower a GTI (as it is stock) by 35mm. Simples
