I've got a '54 plate 140hp tdi (remapped to 185hp) currently at 109k miles it feels better then most cars I've driven, friends comment on how good it drives. Quick enough to keep up with most things.

Great cars just watch out for abused ones and the issues with rust!!

had mine done by r-tech,it was a excellent map...I say was because i had a lot of trouble with oil pressure building up and blowing turbo's
Was that a direct result of map, what gains were you running at?

no the problem was already thier--i had the turbo replaced then went to see Nick about the map,but the turbo went again because the engine breather was blocked even thou it was brand new--

Was it the breather in the end?  I knew it...lol :happy2:

IMO remapping the 2004-06 TDI 140pd hit and miss, not with the software but with the hardware.   Stock boost is 1.35bar and just by going to 1.45bar boost some turbos have a hissy fit.   In a lot of cases on spec1 maps on older 140PD I will give the car 50millbar more boost and use the fuel to make the power ans run a little smokey.

IMO if your unsure how good your turbo is or worried its on then list deemed to fail,  then dont cause your self worry or hardship dont get it mapped.... but saying that they fail just as much in stock form................. so buy a TFSI :signLOL:

Did you change turbo and clutch before or after remap?

Its not so much the turbo actually going, I could live with that if it just "packed up" its the actual destruction to engine parts what worries me. Would seem a new turbo is the way forward for peace of mind!

I recently got a 2004 GT TDI 140 and love it. Getting 46mpg average (this is calculated via fuelly as the computer on the VW exaggerates abit (55mpg), which can be sorted through VCDS) and 520miles out of a tank of V Power Diesel.

Not remaped it yet, but its on my list.

Talking about the weaker turbos on the earlier models TDI's. I had my turbo changed when i bought it. The car had done 80K and the old turbo was loud and the car apparently went into limp mode a few times, so the garage i bought the car from put a brand new one in.

Will this still be like the weaker turbos, will this one be better?

Thanks

The turbo that went was brand new,but it wasn't the map that caused them to it was a build up of oil pressure and as the breathing system was blocked it decided to chuck the oil out through the turbo,I was going to and still will put a hybrid turbo on probs a dark side development one, when i know my engine is running right

If the engine sucks up oil from the inlet side when the turbo fails you can bend rods or have the engine rev until the crank falls out.

The 140 are better than the 170 and more reliable to remap etc.

Only if you don't own a 170!

Or a mapped one pushing 220 bhp with a DPF delete  :P

Ah ok, i thought it was due to the type of turbo they used on the earlier cars. I was hoping that becuase mine has just been changed (4000 miles old) i thought it might have been replaced with a newer better one and they might have stopped making the weaker older ones??
