Hi guys

I know its been ridiculously hot today but my air con took almost the whole of the journey home (15 mins) to start blowing cold air through the vents. It's a little strange as this morning it started working almost straight away. I've owned many cars over the years (Jag X Type, Honda Civic, VW Bora TDI, Peugeot 206 GTI) with air con fitted but this is the first time I've come across this problem.

Anyway I've had my Golf GTI just over 1 year now and I did notice this when I was purchasing the car. The garage had the system re-gassed so unless either there's a leak or they down-right lied and didn't bother getting it sorted I'm sure that's not the problem.

Any advice you can throw my way would be much appreciated before I open my wallet

Cheers
George

Might be worth taking it for a regas / oiling... I'm sure there's loads of offers on at the moment from the big suppliers and they won't charge if the system isn't better after... :happy2:

You need a regas.

mines works but not to its full potential and works within 20 seconds if that so going to regas it at work on Saturday as I know it's not been done for a good few years at least.

I will get it booked in for a re-gas. Hopefully that will solve the issue

Mine was pretty quick today given the heat. Was regassed last year, had a new sensor within the last two (as it had gone porous), and I know the compressor was replaced under warranty before my ownership. Was bliss driving home after the crunking work aircon 'tripped out' - which it always seems to when it is hotter or colder than usual!

Long answer to a short question - yes, mine was cooling within about 20 seconds. Was making plenty of noise as it adjusted the various flaps in the dash, but guess that was all the vents and such being set. It's a noisy system, that's for sure...

Mine takes a while to get cold, even though I've had a new compressor and condenser within the last 2 months.

Sitting in traffic makes air con work very hard

Maybe the dryers faulty as it should get cold very quickly and stay cold until you turn it off.

Bacteria in the system - that's why it's suggested that the A/C is used at least once every week - even in winter.

I think if you get an A/C service, they will top up and put some type of de-odorising compound in.

Try Groupon to see what deals are about in your local area. Needs doing every couple of years

Think my aircon gave up on me in the heights of yesterdays heat. Blower was just blasting warm air and it sounded like Darth Vader. Hope its just a re-gass job and not a new compressor.

I used to use a treatment in my last employment and with that one you leave the Aircon running full  Windows closed exit the car and leave running for 10-15mins.
