Service.. or lack of it
« on: January 29, 2012, 06:54:05 pm »
Ok so my car went from 1800miles until service straight to SERVICE NOW within a week!  :driver: Bear in mind I do 200 miles and take it easy (90% of the time  :innocent:)

So fair enough last week I have a little search for Decent Indys in the Northants area but found nothing. Tried to speak to VWRacing in MK but was told to email, emailed last weds, nothing back. Rang thurs to see if I could get my car booked in and was told someone would call me back - Never did. Rang Friday morning and still no call back  I know these guys have a lot more important things to do than worry about a service but I need quite a bit of work.

Major service
Brake Fluid change
Cambelt change and waterpump
Fit lowering springs

So in the meantime I've PROVISIONALLY booked it in with Aurohaus Riverside in the hope VWR call me back but here's the breakdown of their quote

Major Service                            £359.00
Cambelt with water pump        £419.00
Brake fluid service                    £59.00
Repair to sump/reseal              £186.00

First off if I do have to take it in I'm pretty sure the Major Service is £259? Secondly Isn't the brake fluid a part of the major service?

Either way it's gonna be an expensive few months with this lot, Tax, MOT and insurance all due  :sad1:

RANT OVER!

hi mate, that is a fair list of work and im surprised they havent called you back, now dependant on how they price the service the mileage/time bit may be extra, like the brake fluid change, but then at £59 which will prob be plus VAT is a lot of cash for what is about 15mins work, they will already have the Wheels off due to servicing, we charge £25 to do a full fluid change, the cambelt change looks a little costly TBH have you asked if they would do you a deal as you are having so much done at once, worth asking

Northampton: VRS Motors (VAG Specialists), Rothersthorpe Ind Est. Excellent service. Also break a lot of cars and are agents for Motech remaps.

Milton Keynes: DS Motors (VAG Specialists), Excellent service and have used them for over 10 years.

I've seen nothing but praise for VWR on here so maybe they just had a busy week. Still pinning my hopes on them to be honest as I just get the feeling with Autohaus they'll charge the earth and do the minimal work. Can't see them changing all the bits that should be changes and probably just run a rag over the engine cover and send it on it's way.

I know it's cynical and some dealers do give genuinely good service but personally I don't trust any of them. Oh and I was offered a discount IF I took out a service plan with them. Almost fell off my chair laughing  :stupid:

I just checked my invoice and I Paid £387 for a major service and DSG oil change. This was at VRS 2 weeks ago on an edition 30.

Your concerns over VWR's lack of interest is not alone, lots on here will vouch for there EXTREMELY laid back approach. My advice is to go elsewhere where you custom is valued, VWR are very good when you can get them but it can be a very frustrating experience getting there!

Had my cambelt done at riverside vw.... Resulted in a front bumper respray.
For local vw dealers I would reccommend vw vindis, had great service from them and mod friendly too.

Fixed price major service is £259 at VW (I know as mines booked in for tomorrow), they also quoted me £59 for brake fluid change but declined as local VW specialist INDY garage is doing it as part of cambelt and waterpump service in May (Already booked in), was quoted £248 for Cambelt/waterpump and he added another £22.50 for brake fluid.

I dont mind payin VW for services (keep VW stamps in service book) but major costs goes to INDY as he is almost half price.
