Rear brake light not working

Had the warning come up on my dash, checked bulb and it was fine but I replaced it anyway- no joy! Any ideas?!

Did you check all the exterior bulbs?
Without traction power is nothing!

Check the sensor up behind the brake pedal. I had the same proble
 On my Mk4 golf and it turned out to be a common fault. Not sure if the Mk5 is the same.

Checked all other exterior bulbs and they were fine, no signs of corrosion on the contacts either....
I'll have a look at the brake pedal, many thanks for the heads up:-)
