Stage 1 revo faults
« on: January 30, 2012, 10:42:14 pm »
hi all,

I had my mk6 gti flashed @ inters. All was good until I was nearly home back in lancs when the yellow exhaust light came on, drove cautiously, then after refueling with more vpower the light went out. This fault keeps coming and going for the last 6 months since the flash but I only use vpower. The second fault occured 3 months after inters, when accelerating up a slip road I shifted from 3rd to 4th put the accelerator down and no power, just deceleration, I look at my on board computer at it read engine fault workshop and into limp mode the GTi went. After pluggin the car into a diagnostic machine the tech told me there was a missfire on a cylinder and carbon build up around the throttle body. They wanted to update my ECU but I decllined as it may wipe the flash. I told VW I would see if the fault clears as it was ok once I had arrived @ the dealership. The third fault has just started, which I can only describe as a slipping clutch sensation, but happens intermitently in different gears under heavy load. The 4th fault is an irratic idling, but again intermitent. I have been to Awesome and had the GTi flashed back to stock purely because I have an undriveable £26k car. Both Revo and Awesome tell me thay have had no issues with any other flashed TSi's, and that I have a flywheel issue which is VW's fault and my spark plugs are not great which is VW's fault. I asked Revo uk for a refund or partial refund, or even a voucher for a future ECU flash, to which I got knocked back on all three. But they will give me a 20% discount on a future flash... thanx lol.

All in all I am totaly dissatisified with revo as I have spent £410 on a stg 1, on a car which becomes undriveable. Oh and £33 @ Awesome to go back to stock. My last 2 GTi's one of which was an ED30 were APR tuned and were superb.

Any idea what my next steps should be?

I forgot to add now the car is stock, it drives perfectly, with no slipping clutch no yellow lights, and no irratic idling... Which leads me to think, is it really VW that are at fault?

Slipping clutch is no ones fault... its just a bi-product of adding another 40-50fltbs of torque.

my last 2 gti's have been fine, 299 bhp ED30 no sign of slipping, plus the flash has only covered 5000 miles.

Wasn't there a rash of cars that got flashed by Revo at inters that have shown problems.  :happy2:

it was revo/awesome that told me about sparkplugs/flywheel. I havent spoke to VW about these two issues. I have gone back to stock so I can go back to main dealer to see what there opinion is. The problem I have is now my car is stock there are no faults, but there should be faults stored in the memory, regarding the clutch, I dont they will find as it slipped only when revo'd.

Revo never told me this when I spoke to them earlier today

I seem to remember at least 3 peeps on here with inter flash probs. Mandy was one if you search for threads by her you should find the problem.  :happy2:

the map on the tsi has slightly more torque than the Ed30, my tsi rocco had clutch slip (as per your description) hence why it now has a sachs in it, only issue i've found having run revo stage 1 and 2 on a tsi for over 40k was the plugs needed changing every 12-15k

I had my first mk6 GTI REVO'd in 2009, I sold it in September 2011.
I didn't have any of the above issues (but my car isn't a daily driver - I have a 14 year old Ibiza GTI to fend off the f##kwits with on the daily commute) doing mostly quick dual carriageway driving and motorway work. In fact I live in a very hilly area which would be particularly hard on the clutch in the higher gears at max torque.
I rolling roaded my GTI with about 8000 miles on the clock in 2009 and it came in at 260bhp and 299 lb ft torque on TSRs rollers.
The only issues mine encountered was an occasional hesitation which has been well documented.

What I did find, late in the car's time with me, was that the 95RON map was much smoother. Much less power and torque than the 98 map but you could drive the car damn near as quick in normal road conditions as there was no torque steer (my car ran wider, higher offset wheels and slightly wider tyres than stock so suffered a bit of torque steer on the full fat map), no hesitations and totally smooth through the range with a much better mid range than the standard flat feeling factory map. And it was really good on fuel too.
I only tried the 95RON map just to see what it was like just before I sold the car to satisfy my curiousity and wished I'd used it a lot more.
So my advice would be to sort out your issues with VW, politely kick up a bit of a fuss with REVO to get your map put back on the car afterwards (their customer service is normally very good) FOC and run it on the 95RON map. Much better than standard but not as feisty(sp) as the 98 map.

I have recent experience with a Bluefin mk6. It drives a bit like the 95RON Revo but maybe slightly more powerful. That's a nice alternative if you fancy shelling out another £400 or so.

Remember guys a remap is only as good as the car.... Remap a car with under laying issues and you will have fault pop up.   Being a new car dont mean everything is 100% spot on.

The second fault occured 3 months after inters.    If the Revo map was at fault I am sure you would have issues straight away.

Revo do offer a full refund within 28days more than enough time to find out if the map suits your car and driving style.
