General Tax Question
« on: January 31, 2012, 12:43:08 pm »
I had a 2005 GT TDI - 1968cc which was £130 a year to tax

Due to certain circumstances, this car is noe R.I.P  :ashamed:

I now have EXACXTLY the same car, but the tax is now £165 a year

Any ideas WHY??

Cannot ever be exactly the same car. I am sure the CO2 will be different. It can only take a rise in it by 1 to go from one band to another.

Tax band
 CO2 emissions (g/km)
 Annual rate

F
 141-150
 £130

G
 151-165
 £165

It looks like your first car fell into band F, and this one is in G?

Is your current car exactly the same year and power output?

it can even come down to wheel choice

when my dad bought a W221 in 2008 if you specced an S320 CDI with standard wheels it made 223g/km and if you upgraded the wheels it was 228g/km and fell in a higher tax bracket

we specced it with standard wheels, and bought 20" wheels and tyres when it hit the showroom floor. ofc the government didn't know about them, so it fell in the lower tax bracket. even got the wheels and tyres cheaper than we would have done as an optional extra  (and a free set of winter wheels in the form of the standard ones)
