Stage 1 remap and clutch now slipping
« on: February 04, 2012, 10:35:04 pm »
Ive been driving on the stage1 remap now for a week and just noticed the clutch is now slipping when I give it some in the higher gears..... Devastating!! Anyways, I was wondering what road I should take to rectify, new clutch/flywheel, Sachs etc....? Has anyone had this issue before
It's an ed30 gti with a shark map

My GTI slips in the cold weather in 5th & 6th since its been remapped. Use the search function, LOADS of GTI's (especially ED30's) have had clutch slip since a remap.  :sad1:

Sachs & Helix seem to be the best replacements

Fit the whole lot, flywheel, clutch, bearing. Std VW clutches have never been great for anything much over standard power (sorry VW but its true)! The Mk4 20v turbos used to throw the clutch through the gearbox at 200-240HP and that really ruined your day!

Is there anyone out there who hasn't had clutch slip issues on a manual gti with stage 1 remap?? Its just that there's quite a big difference between spending ~£400/£500 on a remap and >£1000 on clutch and remap!!

Do DSG cars not have this problem then because of the fancy clutch set-up on them?

No, some pople have had what they thought was clutch slip on DSG, but it was cured with a reset / service

I'm hoping to get the kit off the group buy, should I also change the flywheel then to eliminate all?? Also just a quick one for you mechanics how many hours roughly would it take to change them over? Assuming on a ramp, all tools etc? Thanks
