Rough idling and high revving

My 1st thought is a failing coil pack? Anymore views and opinions?

i would say PVC also..  Disconnect the maf and see if it stops.

about £34 for a new valve from vw, about 15 minutes to change. Read the how to sections on here as its something you could do yourself.

The bsh revamp works fine and is a fix for the pcv. I would just get another pcv and fit that. Takes about 6 minutes all in all if you have the oe engine cover. If not its a 5 mins job to complete. Just dont overtighten the screws that hold it on as its only screwed into a plastic fixing plate. Just be advised though if you get a P Revision valve you may need to change the rear breather hose to and thats a pain in the a** to change. The reason for this is that he new pcv valve needs a rear breather hose with a check valve installed to function properly. My car is 56 plate and doesnt have a rear check valve fitted in the rear breather hose. A VW main dealer or tps centre would tell you if one is needed for your car as they changed to fitting a rear check valve in later cars.

Came up with an easier solution... Twist the oil cap back on 

Couldnt see it properly in the dark last night but basically the induction pipe that connects to the front of the grill and side of the engine cover had come off. Twisted the engine cover side ways somehow and caught the oil cap, twisting it off.

Mightly pished off... Had to cry off work thinking it was something serious. However spent a bit of time wi 'er in doors instead. Lets jus say the Mk5 isnt the only thing that looks good in black

With the BSH PCV fix fitted has anyone had to change or is it required to change the rear breather valve, with or without the check valve in it?

If you have a rear check valve you may get a put put sound through the intake with the pcv fix fitted. Most remove the rear check valve if they get that noise as the rear check valve is not needed with the pcv fix.

Would that affect the catchcan in the same way?

Yes as the catch cans work in thes same way as the pcv fix. Some cars make the noise and others dont. Its down to luck of the draw.
